Sandwell’s Holocaust Memorial Day Commemoration (later this morning) is a timely remember of those that were killed in Nazi detention centres like Therisienstadt, Bergen-Belsen, and Auschwitz, as well as a chance to honour our own forces who gave their lives for our freedom from tyranny. (These photos are from the Commemorations in 2020 and 2023.)
We should also remember that the Nazis not only targeted Jews, but also the Roma, homosexuals, and others who did not comply with their extremist ideology. Some Holocaust survivors fear that the World has not learned the lessons of the past, and that history is in danger of repeating itself again, as we saw in Rwanda, Myanmar, and are seeing in Gaza, the West Bank, and other places.
