A lot of discussion on Sunday’s politics programmes. And it has been a backdrop issue to discussion of the dreadful murder of the MP. I found Lisa Nandy and Gordon Brown talked a lot of sense. If their voices are listened to, then there is a chance that the outcome will be sensible.

The world has changed a lot since my thirty odd years as a Councillor. In the early days there were problems about using public buildings. A woman Council Chief Exec started some of the sensible changes to that.

I am pretty sure we don’t want a universal one size fits all model in regards to protection for elected representatives. While there is some justified criticism of the Police, I am someone who was offered Police protection. I was a Liberal Democrat Councillor, published my address and there was going to be an unpopular decision in the Commons (unpopular with me, too). I declined. But they tried!
